The Secrets of the Walls

In the heart of Cuba, where history seeps from every corner, an extraordinary photographic series breathes life into the very walls that have stood the test of time. El Secreto de las Paredes (The Secret of the Walls), created by visionary artist Alexis Plasencia, is more than just a body art project—it is a mesmerizing blend of human form, artistic mastery, and architectural storytelling.

Plasencia, in collaboration with Jokerstudio Cuba, worked with models Carlos Monzón, Beatriz Medina, Giselle Pérez, and Annisleydi Leyva to craft an illusion that challenges the boundaries of perception. Through meticulous body painting techniques, each model seamlessly merges with the textured walls, becoming one with the weathered facades, graffiti-laced surfaces, and peeling paint of Cuba’s urban landscape. The result? A visual symphony where flesh and structure are indistinguishable, blurring the line between reality and art.

What makes El Secreto de las Paredes so compelling is its deeper narrative. The walls, often overlooked as silent witnesses to history, take on new meaning when intertwined with the human form. The cracks, stains, and faded colors tell stories of resilience, change, and time’s relentless passage. Plasencia’s work does not just camouflage bodies against a backdrop—it transforms them into extensions of the city itself, echoing the untold tales that lie within the bricks and mortar.

It is a tribute to the streets of Cuba, to the art that emerges in the most unexpected places, and to the idea that beauty exists not just in pristine galleries but in the raw, unfiltered textures of everyday life.
