Born in Pescara, Italy, Andrea Costantini has always been fascinated by photography and Inspired by Surrealism and architectural structures.
She takes pictures of faces and modifies them by adding other images in the form of montage. She loves playing with lights and shadows, tones and textures to create imaginary worlds which are a mix of architectural pieces, objects, and animals.
She employs the most advanced computer technologies to express herself, but papers and pencils accompany the birth of her projects: sketches and notes turn into thoughts and images.
Her art represents the power to escapes the constraints of social and economic differences and the limits of space and time. Her “Imaginaria” series tells a story through images molded, written and then mixed with imagination.
The same way the great artist Michelangelo carved the David with the head slightly larger than the rest of the body, to symbolize the power of reason, all the characters of “Imaginaria” feature with the same disproportion.
Here, the mind embodies the force that drives the fantastic gear of the imagination that is released from the head. Anachronistic and ridiculous ideas erupt from the mind, free from the dictates of the reason, like a panacea, capable of transforming the dullness of routine in the color of imagination.
To the viewer has the freedom to read every time a different story, by borrowing the artist’s vision, the one of the depicted subject, or simply by triggering his imagination.
